taking care of you today

Tomorrow Is Not Promised: A Lesson in Taking Care of You Today

Inspired by a session by Ira Kaganovsky

There was a moment during Ira Kaganovsky’s session that hit us like a wave—gentle, but powerful. She said, in essence, “Tomorrow is not promised, so take care of yourself today.” And suddenly, the room got a little quieter. A little more still.

Maybe because so many of us needed to hear that truth.

In a world where us women are constantly being told to “lean in” and to do more, to be more—it’s easy to lose ourselves. The deadlines, the meals, the school activities, the social gatherings, and the late-night rockabyes are always keeping us on our toes. We lean in so much that we start to fall over. We take care of everything and everyone. We show up. We give. We manage. We lead.

But at what cost?

Ira reminded us that being a great CEO or a great mom—or really, being great at anything—starts with one simple, powerful thing: taking care of yourself. She learnt it the hard way after her Cancer diagnosis. But she rose from the calamities like a beautiful phoenix.

You can’t show up fully if you’re running on fumes. And no, it’s not selfish to rest. It’s not weak to pause. It’s wise. It’s necessary.

More women are burning out than ever before. Why? Because we’re carrying so much. Because we were taught to push through. Because rest was never framed as strength.

What if we shifted that?

What if instead of always pushing forward, we leaned back just a little? To observe before we act. To breathe before we speak. To honor ourselves—not just in big, grand gestures, but in the quiet, daily choices we make to care for our own well-being. In the quiet bubbling of the coffee kettle as the aroma fills the room.

Self-care isn’t just bubble baths and meditation apps (though those are great too). It’s boundaries. It’s saying no. It’s asking for help. It’s listening to your body. It’s giving yourself the grace to not be everything to everyone.

The truth is, none of us knows what tomorrow holds. We’re not guaranteed next week, next month, or even the next hour. But we do have today. And today, we can choose to love ourselves a little more fiercely. To slow down. To rest without guilt. To stop proving and start being.

So if you needed a sign to take better care of yourself—this is it. You matter. Your energy matters. And taking care of yourself today isn’t just about survival—it’s about setting the foundation for everything else you dream of building.

Take the pause. Breathe. Honor you.

Because tomorrow isn’t promised—but this moment is.
